Walther PPQ 45 and Walther CCP on 10/21/15…
Good evening all and Happy Hump Day!!! As promised, it’s been a busy two days of receiving and it’s not over yet. Today brought the two hottest weapons from Walther into the shop. The elephant in the room is the Walther PPQ 45 so let’s get started there. The PPQ pistols from Walther have been praised as having one of the best double action only triggers in production for some time now. The crisp break has to do with Walther’s 100% pre-cocked striker action. I don’t know exactly what makes it awesome, but I know it’s an awesome trigger. Up until a couple of weeks ago, they were only available in 9mm and .40s&w. The advent of the PPQ 45 put a smile on every .45acp addict out there, myself included. The trigger isn’t the only attractive feature on this weapon. The grip will turn the volume up on your grin too. The ergonomics and the cross-direction texture on the grip are awesome. Front and rear slide serrations and the M2 mag release (reversible to the right side with included hardware) make manipulating this weapon a joy. Big thumbs up for the arrival of the Walther PPQ 45.
Next up is a weapon designed specifically for my female clients by Walther. They set out with a goal of making a small 9mm sidearm that has outstanding ergonomics, limited recoil and decent capacity in a single stack while providing a manual lever safety with the thought purse carry. They really could not have done a better job at fulfilling their goal with the release of the Walther CCP. If it didn’t have the manual safety, I would consider one over the new G43. She comes with two 8 round magazines and sports the new Softcoil Technology which slows down the slide during firing but maintains proper cycling. When you experience recoil while shooting, it’s because the slide is moving backward on its rails as a result the explosion that just took place. That explosion facilitates the launch of the projectile as well as the ejection of the empty shell casing and then the feed of the next live round off the top of the magazine into the chamber. Walther is channeling the gas from that explosion to slow down the slide which, when it comes back is why you feel recoil as it’s the only moving part. The trick is to slow down the slide while still properly cycling all of the rest of the functions that the explosion keeps moving. They nailed it. Less felt recoil, proper cycling and 8+1 capacity in a small package meant to be handled by smaller hands. Seriously nice engineering from the folks at Walther all around these days.
