The TALO Ruger 10/22 Takedown Backpacker TB model is a great new variation on a familiar theme. Ruger 10/22 rifles have been around a long time. Most of the people that come through my door here at Gunshine have owned a 10/22 at some point in their life and about half of you had a 10/22 as a first rifle. None of that should come as a surprise as these are simple, reliable semi-auto rimfire weapons that stand the test of time.
The folks at Ruger teamed up with the folks at Magpul to collaborate on this new release and they worked well together as far as I can see. The standard 10/22 Takedown became a staple of the prepper community because of the rifles versatility, ability to stow in a small bag, and light weight.
The new TALO Ruger 10/22 Takedown Backpacker TB takes its DNA from the 10/22 but also borrows a page from the old AR-7 Survival rifles in that the barrel assembly stows into the stock of the weapon. The top of the stock also opens up as a storage area for ammunition. They topped off the features with a threaded barrel for all of my Tax Stamp Collectors out there and a sweet set of fiber optic high-viz sights.
This new variant on an old theme looks like it should be a big hit and it’s just in time for the holidays. Whether you are a prepper, someone looking for a nice weapon that shoots an inexpensive caliber, or you are looking for a great rifle to start off the kids on…this TALO Ruger 10/22 Takedown Backpacker TB should fit the bill nicely. It’s as sweet a package as I’ve seen from Ruger on the 10/22 platform.
