Ruger No. 1 Medium Sporter .30-06 10/28/15…
Good morning all and Happy Hump Day!!! This morning brings a long gun into the shop that won’t be for everyone. If you hunt and you take pride in your craft, this weapon might be for you. The Ruger No. 1 Medium Sporter .30-06 is a single shot rifle with an action sometimes referred to as a falling block. The falling block refers to the manner in which the breach opens. The falling block rifles are loaded and cocked when the under lever is operated to lower the breechblock for loading. After a cartridge is manually placed in the chamber, the lever is pulled back and the massive breech block slides up and seals the chamber. The rifle is then cocked and ready to shoot.
My reference to hunters that take pride in their craft is because there isn’t a real second shot opportunity with this weapon. You need to be able to hit your target, right where you want to, on the first shot or risk having to go follow blood trails and possibly come upon a wounded animal that might think about getting even with you (depending on what you’re hunting).
Now to the details on this beauty. She has a 24″ blued barrel chambered in .30-06, open rifle sights and a two position top tang safety. The stock is American Walnut with an Alexander Henry Forearm. She comes with rings and an integral scope base. This is a no brainer if you hunt for sport during rifle season. It’s a beautiful weapon, and due to it’s single shot nature, she forces you to perform as well as she can. As always, thank you for reading the Blog at gunshinearms.com
