New Ruger SR556 Takedown 12/14/15…

Good morning all and Happy Sunday.  Tomorrow morning will start with a great new rifle from Ruger on sale at the shop.    The new Ruger SR556 Takedown is a home run of a weapon.  This is a gas piston driven M4 platform rifle chambered in 5.56 that comes in a small case broken down into three roughly equal size segments.  I have to admit that I was skeptical at first about this rifle.  A rifle that breaks down and reassembles effortlessly with a solid rattle free fit and finish seems like the concept was too good to be true.  The reality is that this weapon has all of that.  I was able to assemble and disassemble this weapon in under a minute.  The lower receiver and upper receiver assemble/disassemble like every other M4 platform rifle you’ve ever seen…there are two push pins.  The genius behind the design lies in the barrel assembly/disassembly.  The barrel is machined in such a way that it locks in securely by rotating into place, and also disengages simply thanks to two symmetrical levers on either side of the fore end of the upper receiver.  Simple is always better and this is a truly simple design.  Simple and functional is always a winner.
