New Ruger LC9S and New Smith M&P9 Shield 8/6/14…

Good morning all.  We have two new releases from both Ruger and Smith & Wesson.  They are more like updates on existing designs, but both companies decided to listen to the criticisms surrounding their weapons and make improvements.  It’s always nice to see manufacturing and consumers make it onto the same page.

We are going to start with the Ruger because they really did seem to hit a home run here.  Any of you who know the Ruger LC9, which is hammer fired, may remember that the trigger travel and break were like watching a car wreck in slow motion.  That trigger was an abusively long pull which seemed like it was never going to end and when your mind chimed in that it should have gone off last week, it finally did.  That was really the only criticism of the weapon.  As a concealed carry sidearm, the LC9 is slim, comfortable and weighs very little.  Ruger decided to remedy that trigger situation by releasing the LC9S which is their new striker fired version of the LC9.  While the next statement may seem far fetched considering the variety of high end sidearms that come through the shop, I’m telling it straight.  The double action only trigger on this LC9S is one of the best I have ever felt out of the box.  I’m not kidding.  The travel is short and the break is crisp like a little piece of glass breaking each time you press the trigger.  Don’t take my word for it.  Come in and see for yourself.  It’s amazing.

The next new entry is from Smith & Wesson.  The main criticism with the M&P9 Shield was much more low-key.  As another slim, comfortable and light 9mm sidearm that was obviously designed for concealed carry, many of the consumers questioned the need for the safety that Smith had installed on the frame of the original M&P Shield weapons.  Question no further.  Smith just released the M&P9 Shield with no manual safety on the frame.  We are back to just the normal internal and trigger safety mechanisms that we are used to from the M&P lineup.  This should make quite a few people happy.
