PTR 9SDM-B: A True Integrally Suppressed 9mm SBR
The 9SDM-B is PTR’s modern take on the classic SD: an integrally suppressed variant of the proven PTR 9CT, built as a complete system rather than a host with a can bolted on. It ships as an SBR with the PTR CS1 collapsible stock and the purpose-built PTR VENT SDM suppressor, which PTR designed specifically for this gun to maximize sound suppression while keeping the balance, smooth recoil impulse, and compact handling the roller-delayed action is known for.
This is the single most sought-after item in our shop right now, and for good reason. It is suppressed from the factory, it runs standard 9mm, and it is quiet in a way a can on a conventional barrel cannot match.
How the 9SDM-B Gets 9mm Subsonic
The work starts in the barrel. The 6-inch barrel has ports machined into the rifling grooves that bleed off gas, reducing supersonic ammunition to subsonic velocity. Placing the ports in the grooves also helps prevent bullet-jacket damage, minimizes fouling, and makes cleaning simpler than on traditional SD-style guns.
That ported gas flows into PTR’s Universal SD Adapter (USDA), a pre-suppressor that captures and slows high-pressure gas before it reaches the main suppressor. The VENT SDM then threads onto the USDA via a HUB Bravo 1.375-24 interface. The USDA also accepts HUB Alpha, so the system can run PTR’s VENT 2 as well. The result: no supersonic crack downrange, minimal muzzle report, and a gun that sounds mostly like its own action cycling.

Three Stamps, One Complete System
The 9SDM-B is a three-stamp package: one for the short-barreled rifle, one for the integral suppressor, and one for the VENT SDM that attaches to it. As of January 1, 2026, the federal tax on SBRs and suppressors is $0, but the paperwork has not gone away, and the SBR still requires an approved Form 4 before it leaves the shop. PTR VENT Suppressors: Spiritus 5.56i Inconel and VENT 2 Titanium
PTR’s VENT suppressors are monolithic, 3D-printed cans built around Purposely Induced Porosity, which manages expanding gas through engineered porous structures instead of trapping it behind restrictive baffles. On semi-auto hosts, that means less gas in the face and less ejection-port signature.
The PTR VENT Spiritus 5.56i is the compact, hard-use 5.56 option. Its roughly 6-inch body is printed in Inconel for strength and resistance to extreme heat, weighs 15.2 oz, and adds radial PIP venting for pressure management. It mounts on a 1-3/8×24 HUB interface with a 1/2×28 direct-thread adapter included, and it is rated for 5.56 NATO (10.5-inch minimum barrel), 5.7×28, and 4.6×30. Independent PEW Science testing recorded Suppression Ratings of 37.5 on a 10.3-inch MK18 and 44.2 on a 14.5-inch M4A1.
The PTR VENT 2 is PTR’s dedicated 9mm can for PCCs, subguns, and roller-delayed guns. The titanium body weighs just 8.9 oz at 7.6 inches long, uses a 1.125×28 HUB Alpha mount with a 1/2×28 adapter included, and accepts compatible booster systems for handgun use. It is rated for 9mm, .38 Special, .357 Magnum, and subsonic .300 Blackout, and it posted a 62.7 Suppression Rating in PEW Science testing on an 8.9-inch HK SP5-A2 with 147-grain subsonic ammunition. It is also the alternative suppressor PTR offers on the 9SDM, so it pairs naturally with any PTR9 in the case.
