HONOR DEFENSE 9MM

It’s not very common to have a new product to talk about from a new company in our industry.  Today is one of those days.  The company is called Honor Defense and the pistol, Sub-Compact 9mm, is just named after it’s frame size.  The company itself is interesting in that it’s comprised of some folks that jumped ship from different firearms manufacturers as well as some people from the Service side of things that collaborated on weapon development.  There is a retired Navy Command Master Chief, a retired Armorer/Range Master with the US Army Infantry, a DEA Tactical Firearm Instructor and the founder of the Girl with a Gun Women’s Shooting League.  Nice combination of input on development.

The end result is a weapon without a lot of flash, but with a lot of substance.  It’s apparent when you pick up the Honor Defense Sub-Compact 9mm, that people who shoot for a living helped design it.  It’s a single stack 9mm with two magazines that have a capacity of 7 and 8 rounds.  The slide has front and rear serrations for easy manipulation.  The sights are interesting.  You have rear white two dots and a front bright orange.  While the color contrast pops and makes sight picture/sight alignment easy, the interesting part is the design of the rear sight.  The back of the rear sight is cut in an angle forward so that there is nothing to catch up on when drawing from concealment.  The front portion of the rear sight is straight making it easy to manipulate the slide one handed by catching the rear sight on your belt or other hard surface if you are forced to.  The slide lock is as low profile as can be further removing the likelihood of snag when drawing from concealment.  The grip is textured in a way that almost feels like very fine stippling giving you excellent traction.  The trigger travel and reset are short for a DAO pistol and the break is crisp and clean while being on the heavy side with regard to pull.  I see positive influence in this weapon from ideas born out of Smith & Wesson, Springfield Armory and Kahr (trigger only) with regard to design and function.  Take down is simple as the slide needs to be locked to the rear and there is a Sig style frame mounted lever which needs to be manipulated 90 degrees down to remove the slide.  It’s priced in between the Shield and the G43 and on par with the XDS.  This weapon has a lot going for it.  If you are in the market for a single stack 9mm pistol, the new Honor Defense Sub-Compact 9mm is worth a look.
