1800s Consignment Revolvers from Colt and Smith & Wesson 6/12/14…
Good afternoon all. It’s been a week for older weapons here in the shop and today brings us even further back. We received some very old wheel guns in on consignment today. We will start with the older of the two weapons which is the Colt Model 1849 Pocket Revolver. This weapon is a 5 shot .31 caliber percussion revolver. It has a 5″ octagonal barrel. The grip frame and round trigger guard are made of brass and at one point had a silver plating on them which is no longer visible. The frame, hammer and loading lever are case colored and the cylinder and barrel were once blued. This was the most plentiful of the Colt percussion revolvers with over 300,000 made from 1850 to 1873. The serial number (which matches in the four visible locations on the weapon) would indicate that it was made in the tail end of the production run so somewhere around 1870. She is being sold at book value for the condition she’s in which is somehow a lot less than I would have thought.
Next, we have a Smith & Wesson Safety Hammerless 3rd Model chambered in .38S&W. This is a Top Break 5 shot weapon in a nickel finish. She has a push button latch that is flush with the frame. This weapon was manufactured in 1893.
